Personal skin scan
We always start with a personal intake where we discuss your needs. We assess your skin and do a skin scan. With pigment spots, a skin scan is interesting because we can see how the pigment is distributed, how deep the pigment is and how much pigment is present in the skin. During the intake interview, we will draw up an appropriate treatment plan for you. Here we look wider than just laser treatments, to achieve the best possible results.

How does the treatment work?
We usually start with the Alexandrite laser or IPL. This laser delivers short pulses of high intensity light to the skin. The skin therapist sets the laser appropriately. The pigment cell absorbs the laser light, which is then converted to heat. Heat causes the excess pigment cells to disintegrate. As a result, for a short time you actually see the pigment spot darken. After about 1 week, you will notice that due to exfoliation of the skin, the pigment spot reduces or even disappears completely.

Prevention is better than cure
How you handle sunlight after treatment determines the maintenance of treatment results. That’s why we always impart to our clients: daylight is sunlight. The best pigment suppressant is to apply a cream with SPF 50 at least daily! Prevention is better than cure. Be sure to maintain the results you achieved and continue to protect your skin daily throughout the year. With melasma, a treatment regimen is a lot more intensive. This involves ongoing maintenance to stabilize the pigment.

How many treatments do I need?
On average, pigmentation treatment requires 2 to 5 treatments at 3 to 6 week intervals. This depends on the treatment indication
What indications can be treated?
- Hyperpigmentation
- Poikyloderma
- Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Cafe-au-lait stains
- Liver spots
- Age spots
- Sunspots
- Naevus of Becker
- Naevus of Ota
- Freckles
What is the cause of pigment spots?
There are several causes that cause pigment spots to appear. Consider prolonged exposure to sunlight, the tanning bed and not enough sun protection. Pigmentation spots can also be caused by wounds to the skin, certain medications, hormonal changes or pregnancy. In the latter case, we speak of a pregnancy mask or melasma.
What is the difference between pigment spots and melasma?
Melasma is a chronic skin condition where hormones cause the skin to have a permanent sensitivity to produce too much pigment. Fortunately, there are more and more treatment options to treat this stubborn skin condition. Whereas pigmentation spots are relatively easy to treat, melasma is more of a challenge.
What should I consider before treatment?
For best results, we recommend avoiding direct sunlight as much as possible 6 weeks before treatment. Also, do not use self-tanner in two weeks before treatment.
How long does treatment take on average?
Between 30 and 60 minutes. Beforehand, we will give you all the information about the chosen treatment, including the treatment duration.
What should I consider after the treatment?
For best results, it is important to let your skin recover peacefully after treatment. Do not scratch any scabs or skins. Under the influence of hormones and sun and daylight, new pigment spots can appear. We achieve the best results with laser therapy when combined with pigment inhibiting and bleaching products. And it is also important that you apply sunscreen with a mineral SPF50 consistently (every 2-3 hours) when you are outside.
