Melasma

Do pigment spots suddenly appear on your forehead, cheekbone or upper lip? The dark discolorations look erratic and are a typical sign that you are dealing with melasma. A harmless skin condition with a big impact on your appearance. Are you finding the spots increasingly difficult to camouflage? Want to prevent the spots from getting worse? Don’t walk around with pigment spots any longer! Make an appointment to reduce these spots.

At The Laser Clinic, we specialize in treating melasma. With an intensive course, we help you make your skin more even and healthy, giving you a calmer skin appearance. Personal skin scan

We assess your skin with the Observ520 skin scan for the presence and depth of your dark spots. Hyperpigmentation involves excess melanin in the skin, causing dark spots to appear. This excess pigment can be either superficial or deeper in the skin. Dark spots that have appeared do not disappear on their own. Based on an inspection of the skin and the questionnaire you fill out, we create a personalized treatment plan. Thus, we want to help you reduce your stains in the best possible way.

How does the treatment work?

Melasma requires multiple treatments. The course consists of treatments in the clinic, skin products for home use and change in dealing with sunlight. Skin therapy treatments build up in intensity. We usually start first with medical peels and spot-out treatment. We also enjoy working with the innovative Skinpen. In some cases we use laser therapy, and possibly medication may be advised as an adjunct. The skin therapist will work with you to decide which treatment option or combination of different treatments is best for your skin. We always tailor a plan to achieve the best results. It regularly happens that clients are already satisfied with the results achieved at the beginning of a course. Then, of course, there is no need to undergo more severe treatments. We are satisfied when you are!

Your investment

For the medical indication melasma, reimbursement from the supplementary health insurance is possible. You are responsible for submitting the invoice to the insurer. The Laser Clinic has contracts with all health insurance companies. Check the online calendar for current rates. Be aware that melasma requires a comprehensive approach, with reimbursement usually not sufficient for all treatments. In addition, recommended home products, apart from concealers, are usually not reimbursed. The no-obligation intake is always free of charge.

The first step is to protect your skin

Melasma is a skin condition that more and more people are finding us with. It is a challenging care question because melasma is not easy to treat. Fortunately, we have the expertise to help you safely deal with this annoying skin condition. It is an intensive course, with ongoing maintenance treatments absolutely recommended. How you handle sunlight is also critical to maintaining treatment results. Honest and transparent information is very important to us at The Laser Clinic. This is why we always tell our clients: daylight is sunlight, the best anti-pigment cream is to apply an SPF 50 at least daily! Prevention is better than cure. Ensure that you maintain the results achieved by protecting your skin daily throughout the year.

Are the treatments available to everyone?

Anyone who wants to work on beautiful skin is welcome. During the intake and in between, we like to stay informed about changes in medication and your health. For example, during pregnancy or when taking certain medications such as an antibiotic, we are only allowed to perform milder treatments.

Is the treatment painful?

No, with melasma we use treatment methods that are not painful. Some of the more intense treatments can be perceived as sensitive, though.

What does an intake with skin scan cost?

A comprehensive intake with the Observ520 skin scan is free of charge and without obligation once.

What equipment do you use for the removal of pigment spots in melasma?

Medical peelings

With medical peels, we renew the skin in a controlled manner with acids. Several treatments are recommended here. Rates range from €99 to €199 per treatment.

Spot-out treatment

The spot-out treatment is the only deeper treatment ideally suited for melasma and darker skin types. It works on your entire skin condition: your skin will be evened out and regain its glow. The method is based on one or two deeper treatments at the clinic, after which you complete the treatment yourself at home. In fact, the special mask should last for 6 to 12 hours. At home, continue treatment for 6 months with special spot-out products. The rate for this treatment is € 395 including home products. Note that the skin must be pre-treated!

Medical microneedling

The Medical Skinpen is our all-rounder. It gives your skin a true collagen boost, giving you stronger skin from the inside out. It is the only FDA-approved microneedling system in the world. Perfect for softening fine lines, acne scars, skin imperfections such as pigmentation and sagging. Suitable and safe for all skin types. You will see the final results after about 12 to 16 weeks.

Camouflage therapy

With lycogel medical camouflage products, you can effectively camouflage your skin without closing it off. Supplemental health insurance reimburses for these products.

Laser, IPL or Thulium

With our extensive laser equipment, we treat superficial pigmentation of the skin. Unfortunately, with melasma, the pigment is usually deeper in the skin as well. Therefore, laser therapy is not always appropriate. We assess your skin to estimate this.

Or a combination of the above treatments.

What is the cause of melasma?

The exact cause of melasma is still unknown. However, it is clear that hypersensitivity develops in pigment cells to daylight, artificial UV radiation, blue light and sometimes heat. Triggering factors of this hypersensitivity include: pregnancy, pill use, some anti-epileptic drugs, hereditary predisposition and certain cosmetics containing perfume, for example.

Is melasma the same as a pregnancy mask?

Yes, melasma is also called pregnancy mask. This term is somewhat confusing because this pigmentation condition also occurs without pregnancy and even in men. We do know that hormonal factors come into play, which is why pregnant women are more likely to develop melasma.

What is the main trigger?

The main trigger of melasma is sunlight. This stimulates your pigment cell to make pigment. In the case of melasma, this is hypersensitivity, causing your pigment cell to produce even faster and more melanin (pigment). Without sunlight, you won’t get pigmentation. New scientific research even shows that screen light (blue light) and in skin types III and above, heat (such as from sauna visits) stimulate your pigment cells to make extra melanin.

What is the difference between pigment spots and melasma?

Melasma is a chronic skin condition in which hormones cause the skin to have a permanent sensitivity to produce too much melanin. Fortunately, there are more and more treatment options to treat this stubborn skin condition. Whereas pigmentation spots are relatively easy to treat, melasma is more of a challenge.

What does my skin look like after a treatment?

After treatment, the skin may be redder. This subsides within a few hours. With deeper treatments, scaling, temporary dryness or tightness may be a desired reaction. Beforehand, we always discuss if and how much recovery time there is after a treatment. After most treatments, we can apply a concealer product from lycogel.

Do I need a referral letter to make an appointment?

No, a referral is not necessary. Skin therapy is readily available. Anyone who wants to work on beautiful skin is welcome.

How does the payment go?

By pin or exact cash after treatment. In case of a medical indication, you submit the invoice yourself to your supplemental health insurance company. If you do not have supplemental insurance, you can claim the cost as other health care expenses on your tax return.

What is the difference between a skin therapist and beautician?

A skin therapist has completed a college degree, is a paramedic, falls under the BIG Act (health care professions), carries a protected title and is listed in the paramedics quality register. In case of medical indications, reimbursement from the supplementary health insurance is possible. A skin therapist focuses on skin improvement and skin problems. A beautician generally has a mbo degree and focuses on the care and beautification of healthy skin and does not have a protected title.

I don't have any skin problems, can I also visit The Laser Clinic?

Absolutely! Anyone who would like beautiful skin or wants preventive skin treatment aimed at skin improvement is welcome.
