In summer, your skin was so nice and calm, wonderful!
Unfortunately, summer is officially over and autumn has now really started.
You may notice that your acne-prone skin is suddenly restless again.
This has little to do with you or how you cared for your skin during the summer, but rather with the change in the weather, especially the reduction in sunlight.
We explain how this can happen in this blog.

The effects of the sun and UV radiation

In summer, the sun shines more often and the sunlight is stronger.
The skin therapists at The Laser Clinic recommend that you always apply sufficient and regular sunscreen, preferably with SPF50.
This way you protect your skin optimally against harmful UV radiation.
Yet it is precisely this UV radiation that also makes your skin calmer.
UV radiation consists of different types and wavelengths.
The acne-causing C. Acnes bacteria are not very resistant to certain types of UV radiation.
As a result, it becomes less active and the number of inflammations in your skin decreases.

Also, UV radiation dries out our skin.
As a result, our sebaceous glands become more active and our top skin layer thickens.
This makes it harder for dirt and sebum to leave your skin.
Therefore, in summer, you may see more congestion and blackheads.
In contrast, redness and brown spots are less noticeable because of your tanned skin, making your skin appear more even and calm.

After the summer

But what about when summer is over and the sun shines less?
Your sun-tanned skin slowly fades to its original color, making red and brown spots more noticeable.
In addition, the C. Acnes bacteria become more active again, which then causes more inflammation in the skin.
The thickened top skin layer has become difficult to pass through, making it harder for skin products to penetrate your skin and do their job less well.

What can you do about this?

No worries!
With a combination of a good skin care routine, skin treatments and guidance from the skin therapist, you can bring your skin back into balance.
