Bone vein removal
Faulty leg vessels are small superficial dilated blood vessels visible on the legs and feet. We also call them broom varices. They are red, purple or blue in color and usually sit together in clumps. They also often remain after varicose vein treatment. The vessels are often perceived as disfiguring and disturbing, which is why most women like to have them removed. With our leg vascular laser, we can safely and effectively reduce these vessels. Do you recognize these vessels and would like to get rid of them?

How does the treatment work?
When treating leg vessels, we use a powerful laser (Long-pulsed ND-YAG laser). Leg vessels from 0.1 to 5.0 mm in diameter can be safely and effectively removed with this laser.
The red dye in our blood (hemoglobin) absorbs the light from the laser and is converted into heat. Heat coagulates the proteins in the blood, causing the blood vessel to clog. Then the body clears the leg vessels within a few months. The surrounding tissue of the lasered blood vessel is minimally heated, leaving the healthy skin intact. Treating the entire vascular network from superficial to deeper areas requires an average of 3 to 5 treatments at 8 to 12 week intervals. Beforehand, we take pictures of the leg vessels so we can see the progress.

After doubting for a long time to have me treated for leg veins and rosacea, I was surprised to see the Laser Clinic here in my hometown of Groningen. During the consultation I immediately felt at ease. They took all the time I needed and helped me in a very friendly and professional way. After two treatments I can say that I am very happy with the results.

With us you are in safe hands
At The Laser Clinic, we are the only ones in the Groningen area with the latest and most effective equipment to remove leg vessels. You will always be treated by a quality registered skin therapist with extensive experience and broad knowledge. This is important because with the wrong equipment or an incompetent practitioner, there is a high risk of complications and damage to the skin. Unfortunately, this is common because laser therapy is not yet a reserved practice in the Netherlands. With us, you are in safe hands.

Is treatment painful?
During treatment, you may experience a warm and/or stinging sensation. Generally, the treatment is not considered painful. We can cool the skin by air cooling during treatment if necessary.
How does my skin feel after the treatment?
Your skin may be burning, red and slightly swollen after the treatment. The degree of redness and swelling depends on your skin type and the intensity of the treatment. These skin reactions normally disappear within a few hours after treatment. The treated leg vessels may temporarily darken as a result of the treatment. This is perfectly normal and recovers after a few days. The subcutaneous discoloration of the vessels may persist for several weeks.
When is treatment not possible?
For safe treatment and to achieve optimal results, your skin should not be tanned by the sun or cosmetic tanning products. This means not exposing your skin to the sun, tanning beds, tanning sprays or self-tanning products for four to six weeks before treatment.
There are a number of reasons why treatment may not start. This is the case when you:
- are pregnant
- breastfeeding
- certain types of antibiotics used
- Have insulin-dependent diabetes combined with poor wound healing
- vitamin A acid (isotretinoin or roaccutane) used
- Have a predisposition to keloid scarring
- Or wears an internal defibrillator or pacemaker
Before starting treatment, always inform your skin therapist about any medication, changes in medication use and the use of (homeopathic) remedies or creams. This may affect treatment.
What are the possible complications?
If you follow the precautions and instructions properly, complications are rare. In a few cases, a pigment reaction, blistering or skin infection occurs after treatment. Most reactions are transient. Always contact us if you notice an unwanted reaction or complication.
What is the cause of leg veins?
The exact cause of visible leg vessels cannot always be traced. What we do know is these interfering vessels can be caused by hereditary predisposition, pregnancy, aging a standing job or a weakened vascular structure. The vessels can have different colors: from small red vessels to large purple/blue vessels. Sometimes they sit together in tangles, making it look like a bruise from a distance.
Besides being perceived as cosmetically distracting, visible leg vessels can also cause symptoms such as tired legs, restless legs, itching and fluid accumulation (edema). Visible leg veins are no longer functional for your body and can therefore be safely removed. With our powerful leg vascular laser, we can treat your unsightly vessels safely and effectively. For beautiful and even legs!
Will the vessels in the legs stay gone forever?
Of course, new visible leg vessels can always appear. Keep in mind that annual maintenance treatment is sometimes necessary. We keep track of the progress with pictures in your file. Are you unsure if you have an underlying problem or are you suffering a lot from varicose veins? If so, contact your doctor or vascular surgeon before treatment.
Is laser treatment harmful?
No, the purple, red or blue blood vessels are selectively warmed, so the skin around them is not damaged. The blood vessels eventually clear up on their own. Thus, laser treatment is a safe way to reduce visible leg veins.
How many treatments are needed?
Depending on the size and amount of visible leg veins, you will need about 3 to 5 treatments for the desired results. Recovery time is about 8 weeks. After 8 to 12 weeks, we do a follow-up treatment. During the intake interview, we will create a personalized treatment plan for you.
Visible leg veins often remain after varicose vein treatment. Therefore, before you have your varicose veins lasered, have them treated. That’s how you get optimal results.
What can I do to prevent leg veins?
To prevent visible leg vessels, we recommend plenty of exercise so that the calf muscle pump can do its job properly. You may also want to wear therapeutic elastic stockings to prevent the formation of new vessels.
Can all leg vessels be treated?
Not all leg vessels can be treated with a laser. Purple blood vessels respond best to laser therapy. Fine red vessels are more of a challenge. Assume we can remove about 70% of visible vessels.
